Thank You, Award Fun, and The Search Is Over

I'd like to start this post by saying thank you for the kind words and expressions of sympathy regarding my brother in law's death. I appreciate it very much.

Yesterday was a crazy day for awards, wasn't it? Thank you again to those of you who gave me an award. I think Lissaloo and I got the ball rolling in the morning thanks to Donna. By the afternoon, awards were flying all over the place! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Even though we've never met in person, I think of all of you as friends. What, too mushy? Let's just group hug and move on!

And, finally, the search is over. I'm pleased to say that we finally found a car for our son! We found something that met our criteria and his. It had to be either 4 wheel or front wheel drive for us (snow, Michigan, you get the picture), it had to be sporty and fast for him. So here it is (drum roll, please)........

a 1993 Dodge Stealth! It's in great shape, it's just a little dirty. Unfortunately, we won't be able to get it plated and insured until Monday so he's stuck with looking at it or sitting in it. Or he could round up some friends, borrow my husband's truck and head for the mall. Can you guess what he decided to do? Thought so!

I am so happy that you don't have to look anymore! I know nothing about cars (American cars, anyway), but this one definitely looks very cool!

I passed all of your comments on to my son. He has been grinning from ear to ear since he got the car.

Skip Breakfast And Have An Adventure

We're skipping breakfast again.  I know you were expecting Mr. Willoughby to dazzle you with his cooking skills, but he doesn't feel like cooking today.  He wants to go skydiving. Yesterday, a friend sent us a link to an article about a new place to skydive in Michigan.  When I clicked on the link, I was surprised to see a familiar face. We'll get to that in a minute. You may recall that Mr. W started skydiving by taking a tandem jump a few years ago.  With a tandem jump, having a great instructor makes the difference between a fun experience and an amazing experience and Mr. W had Josh Sheppard; one of the best.  Josh is experienced, enthusiastic and passionate about skydiving.  Mr. W had such an amazing experience that he decided to take the AFF course (to learn to jump solo) before they were back on the ground.   So back to that article, the familiar face I saw was Josh.  He and his brother Abe have started a new skydiving business in Owo...

Timeline

I made Spaghetti with Tomato Basil Cream Sauce and Chicken Parmesan for dinner last night. It's not a difficult meal to prepare, but it does require the oven and multiple burners on the cooktop so it heats up the kitchen. After dinner, it was still awfully warm inside, so I left all of the dishes right where there were and my husband and I went outside to sit on the back porch and cool off. We had eaten rather late, so it was already dark outside. Our neighborhood was uncharacteristically quiet and the only sounds were that of the crickets chirping and the faint whoosh of cars passing by on Main Street. It was a perfect summer evening, the sort that you dream about in the middle of February. I asked my husband what he thought we might have been doing at that exact moment one year ago. Had we been sitting in the same place enjoying similarly beautiful weather? Had I made the same meal for dinner? What about five years ago? How about 10, 15, and 20 years ago? I know I've taken a ...

Do These Cookies Come With Instructions?

I have a simple question to ask you.  What is a Christmas cookie?  I've celebrated Christmas every year of my life, but today was the first time I ever thought about the what the term actually means (my son says I have too much time on my hands).   When I looked it up online, the definition read "A sugar cookie, usually cut in festive shapes, that is made and eaten at Christmas."  Really?  Could I have been doing it wrong all these years? Does Christmas mean December 25th, or does it include the entire holiday season?  Would it still be a Christmas cookie if you ate it on Thanksgiving?  Or New Years Eve?  What about other types of cookies?  If I make Chocolate Truffle cookies, for example, can they technically be called Christmas cookies?   And should I wait until Christmas to serve them?    Who are Christmas cookies for?  I know a lot of people, myself included,  make up platter...
