Remember me, Willoughby?

I've been away from blogging for a long time.  My last post was more than a year ago.  It was never intentional, it just kind of got away from me.  Also, it didn't seem that I was all that far removed from blogging because I've kept in touch with so many of you through Facebook and email.

Every time I've tried to start blogging again, I've run into the same problem.  What should I blog about?  Does anyone care to read my ramblings anymore?  I don't know the answer to either question, especially the second one.  Time will tell, I suppose.  In any case, I've decided to try to pick up where I left off and get back to blogging.

So what have I been doing all this time?  Lots of things, actually.  Mr. W and I have been working on quite a few home improvement projects.  We've taken some great day trips and cooked some fantastic food.  A few holidays have come and gone and seasons have changed multiple times.  Our store is doing well and we've started an adventure journal style blog.  Little by little, I'll be telling you about all of these things.  Well, the more interesting stories, anyway.

I promise I'll do my best to get caught back up with all of you.  I've missed you and I can't wait to see what's new in your corner of the internet.  Also, I'll be posting a special Novica giveaway very soon, so I hope you'll be back for that.

Thanks for stopping by!

Very good to see a new post up here. Bloggers do quit, all of us that have been blogging for awhile know that. Life often makes new demands or we just tire of it. I find it much better than FB or G+ because you get more substance in a post. FB has it's place but I don't mix the blog friends with the FB family and friends.

I don't know if you ever read my other blog "I Can't Blog" over on blogger. It's linked from my main blog. In that blog my posts (much much fewer of them) are focused on blogging thoughts and questions.
Welcome back and hope to read your words flowing here again.
Hi, Sue! I was away for a year, too. I've noticed a lot of bloggers I used to follow are gone now. I don't know if it's me, but it seems blogging in general has changed, too. I remember a long time ago you used to host cocktail parties. I think they stopped right as I discovered you, so I don't remember how it all worked--but maybe we should combine forces and sponsor a little virtual mingler to celebrate our return! If you're interested, you know where to find me :)

It seems like blogging is different now! I wonder if it's Pinterest that's replaced it?

Nice to see you!

Skip Breakfast And Have An Adventure

We're skipping breakfast again.  I know you were expecting Mr. Willoughby to dazzle you with his cooking skills, but he doesn't feel like cooking today.  He wants to go skydiving. Yesterday, a friend sent us a link to an article about a new place to skydive in Michigan.  When I clicked on the link, I was surprised to see a familiar face. We'll get to that in a minute. You may recall that Mr. W started skydiving by taking a tandem jump a few years ago.  With a tandem jump, having a great instructor makes the difference between a fun experience and an amazing experience and Mr. W had Josh Sheppard; one of the best.  Josh is experienced, enthusiastic and passionate about skydiving.  Mr. W had such an amazing experience that he decided to take the AFF course (to learn to jump solo) before they were back on the ground.   So back to that article, the familiar face I saw was Josh.  He and his brother Abe have started a new skydiving business in Owo...

Timeline

I made Spaghetti with Tomato Basil Cream Sauce and Chicken Parmesan for dinner last night. It's not a difficult meal to prepare, but it does require the oven and multiple burners on the cooktop so it heats up the kitchen. After dinner, it was still awfully warm inside, so I left all of the dishes right where there were and my husband and I went outside to sit on the back porch and cool off. We had eaten rather late, so it was already dark outside. Our neighborhood was uncharacteristically quiet and the only sounds were that of the crickets chirping and the faint whoosh of cars passing by on Main Street. It was a perfect summer evening, the sort that you dream about in the middle of February. I asked my husband what he thought we might have been doing at that exact moment one year ago. Had we been sitting in the same place enjoying similarly beautiful weather? Had I made the same meal for dinner? What about five years ago? How about 10, 15, and 20 years ago? I know I've taken a ...

Do These Cookies Come With Instructions?

I have a simple question to ask you.  What is a Christmas cookie?  I've celebrated Christmas every year of my life, but today was the first time I ever thought about the what the term actually means (my son says I have too much time on my hands).   When I looked it up online, the definition read "A sugar cookie, usually cut in festive shapes, that is made and eaten at Christmas."  Really?  Could I have been doing it wrong all these years? Does Christmas mean December 25th, or does it include the entire holiday season?  Would it still be a Christmas cookie if you ate it on Thanksgiving?  Or New Years Eve?  What about other types of cookies?  If I make Chocolate Truffle cookies, for example, can they technically be called Christmas cookies?   And should I wait until Christmas to serve them?    Who are Christmas cookies for?  I know a lot of people, myself included,  make up platter...
