More Flowers And My Addiction Plus An Update

Yesterday, my daughter asked me why people hate dandelions. I told her it was because they are weeds and very hard to get rid of. She said she doesn't care if they're weeds, they're still pretty to her. She feels bad for the dandelions because no one likes them. While I'm not likely to agree, I can't argue with her logic. She wanted to pick them all out of the yard before my husband cut the grass. I gave her a plastic pitcher and let her go to town on the back lawn.

She spent about an hour picking as many as she could. When she finally realized she would never get all of them she gave up.

And then she gave them to me. All three pitchers full! Anyone in need of some dandelions?

My Addiction

I got so many nice comments about my iron fish, yesterday, that I thought I would share a picture of my other fish candle holder. This one is made of resin, so he's quite a bit lighter and much smaller.

When I went out back to take a picture of him, I suddenly realized that I have a serious addiction to candles, candle holders, candlesticks, lanterns and oil lamps. I don't know why I never thought about it before, but I have dozens and dozens of them in every shape, size and material known to man. I don't know exactly why I'm so drawn to them, but I can't resist buying them everywhere I go. I like them indoors and outdoors.

On the wall in the dining room.

I moved them to the living room to take a picture, but these are usually in the dining room, too.

These are in the living room. They are actually vintage jello molds, but I put tea lights in them. I also use them for molds to make wax tarts for my tart burner (below).

In the front hallway.

In the living room. Ignore the soot on the glass, it was lit last night and I haven't cleaned it yet.

Here are just a few from the back porch.

That's not all. I also have candle lanterns hanging from the porch posts. There are four total.

And two more from a post in the back yard.

I told you it was an addiction! With flea market season just beginning, I'm sure I'll be adding more to the collection. Do you have this addiction, too, or is it just me?

Update

The CDC revised their guidelines for closing schools to control the spread of the swine flu. Our schools have reopened after being closed for two days.

I love your addiction to candles and candle holders. They emit such ambiance. Also, the lighting at night makes everyone look good!
That clock is gorgeous. It looks like an antique. You have some fine goodies in your home.

I agree with your daughter- what's wrong with dandelions? I've never understood what makes one plant a weed and another desirable...can you tell I'm not a gardener? And I, too, love candles. I love the way wax smells and the soft glow a group of candles gives off.

My kids also love dandelions. Chase has so much fun when they get the fluff on them.

ARGH!!! Dandelions!!! I don't garden, but my sister (who does hers AND mine) HATES dandelions. My 2 yo likes to pick them at the puffball stage and "make a wish and blow" the puffy stuff (seeds) all over the yard...making more dandelions!!! It's a never ending battle!!! I have heard of people making wine out of them, though! You should check into it...could be a fun Friday night post!!!!

I love the candles, by the way! I'm more into essential oils and the little burners for those, but it's a similar obsession!!! What can I say...I like things that smell good!!!

That is an impressive collection of candleholders. I'm not an addict like you but I can appreciate a good candleholder. My wife has this candle display thing she bought a while back. Party lite? Anyway, its for Christmas and has some snowmen. I love it. I'm the one who makes sure its got candles on it.

I do like our sun candleholders too.

First: I am aware that AR has a recipe for dandelion wine.

Second: I don't have a candle addiction but after seeing your collection I just may have to start my own!

I can never have enough candles. Winter I spend my money on birdseed, spring on flowers, autumn it's bulbs and summer....ah summer....it's all about alfresco dinners and candles. Mason jars with sand and tealights in them hanging from the teas. Heavenly.

Your daughter should move to France...they grow dandelions there for salads!

Delightful post about your daughter and the dandelions!
My husband says that weeds are just flowers that haven't gone to finishing school! ( they are just as worthy! )
