You can never take a single second for granted. You just can't, because you never know what tomorrow will bring. We got a tragic reminder of this yesterday when we heard that a local teenage boy had committed suicide. We sat in stunned silence when we heard the news. My son knew this boy and they had mutual friends. There just aren't words to express the shock and sadness.
Out of respect for the family's privacy, I don't want to be too specific with the details. I will tell you that this boy was 18 years old and came from a loving family. Over the weekend, while no one was home, he shot and killed himself. My heart aches for this family and the agony they must be going through. I simply can't imagine it.
My husband and I made sure to talk to our son about it and remind him that he can come to us with any problem, no matter how big or small. We know that he knows that, but it bears repeating. It's so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel sometimes when you're a teenager. Even the smallest problems can be so all consuming.
Please, don't forget to hug your kids today.

Oh, Willoughby, so sorry to here of that sadness. We lost a friend two years ago and everyone was stunned. I will definietly hub my little one today!
I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Christine. Suicide is just so shocking and unexpected. I bought a sympathy card for the family and I'm at a loss as to what to write in it.
