Awards!

Thank you to Heidi at Tried and True Cooking with Heidi for honoring me with this award.

The rules of this award dictate that I must post the award on my blog, list seven personality traits of mine and pass the award to seven other bloggers. Here goes:
  1. Dedicated - I'm absolutely dedicated to my family.
  2. Creative - I like to think outside the box and find new ways to do things. I especially enjoy getting creative with cooking, home projects and writing.
  3. Optimistic - I think I'm usually a "glass half full" kind of person.
  4. Humorous - Life is funny. I can't imagine going a day without finding something to laugh at.
  5. Appreciative - I try never to forget how lucky I am to have special people in my life and make sure they know how much I care about them.
  6. Honest - I'm a terrible liar, I have to be truthful even when it means admitting I'm wrong.
  7. Particular - This has to be the most annoying personality trait that I have. I'm so particular (picky, obsessive/compulsive, whatever!) that sometimes I drive others (and myself) crazy. I tend to like things done a certain way and I can't let it go when someone does them a different way. It makes shopping harder, too. Purple Hoodie Chick has been to the supermarket with me, just ask her!
Looking at that list, I can't say there is much I would like to change, even my less than appealing traits make me who I am. And now I would like to pass this award on to:
  1. The 5th Sister
  2. The Muddy Runner
  3. Who Has The Thyme?
  4. Tattoos And Teething Rings
  5. Purple Hoodie Chick
  6. One Step At A Time
  7. Forty Something And Counting

I also received the Passionate Blogger award from The 5th Sister. Thank you so much!

The rules of this award are: post the award on my blog, list 5 things I am passionate about (other than my blog), and tag 5 people on my list and let them know why I tagged them.

I am passionate about:

  1. My husband - After 20 years of marriage I am still passionately in love with this man.
  2. My children - They amaze me every day.
  3. Music - I don't play an instrument and I don't sing well, but I couldn't go a day without listening to music.
  4. The ocean - I don't live near the ocean, but I'd like to some day. I feel drawn to it in a way that I can't put into words.
  5. Living without regret - This is a pretty broad category, I know, but I don't want to look back and say "I wish I had....." years from now. For me, that means making sure the people in my life know that I care about them and things like taking family vacations while my kids are still young. It also means not sweating the small stuff or taking a single second for granted.

I'd like to pass this award on to these passionate bloggers:

  1. ViisionGFX - He's passionate about digital photography and creating graphics. He's also my son!
  2. Donna of My Tasty Treasures - Her blog is pretty passionate!
  3. Purple Flowers - Her passion for flowers is evident in her lovely pictures.
  4. Everyday With Abby J - She is passionate about her amazing travels.
  5. Yesterday's Tomorrow - She's passionate about her family and her life.

I love writing my blog and I appreciate all of you who take the time to read it and leave comments (who doesn't love feedback?) as well as any new friends that stop by. If you haven't visited some of the blogs listed in this post, you should check them out. They're all fabulous!

I'll be back later to open the bar! See you then!

Willoughby! Thanks for the award. You know, your blog is the only one from our little bloggers bloc that I can post comments to from my phone! I haven't been able to post much on the other blogs because of it.

I'm honored to receive your award, and to have you as one of my loyal readers. So thank you.

Skip Breakfast And Have An Adventure

We're skipping breakfast again.  I know you were expecting Mr. Willoughby to dazzle you with his cooking skills, but he doesn't feel like cooking today.  He wants to go skydiving. Yesterday, a friend sent us a link to an article about a new place to skydive in Michigan.  When I clicked on the link, I was surprised to see a familiar face. We'll get to that in a minute. You may recall that Mr. W started skydiving by taking a tandem jump a few years ago.  With a tandem jump, having a great instructor makes the difference between a fun experience and an amazing experience and Mr. W had Josh Sheppard; one of the best.  Josh is experienced, enthusiastic and passionate about skydiving.  Mr. W had such an amazing experience that he decided to take the AFF course (to learn to jump solo) before they were back on the ground.   So back to that article, the familiar face I saw was Josh.  He and his brother Abe have started a new skydiving business in Owo...

Timeline

I made Spaghetti with Tomato Basil Cream Sauce and Chicken Parmesan for dinner last night. It's not a difficult meal to prepare, but it does require the oven and multiple burners on the cooktop so it heats up the kitchen. After dinner, it was still awfully warm inside, so I left all of the dishes right where there were and my husband and I went outside to sit on the back porch and cool off. We had eaten rather late, so it was already dark outside. Our neighborhood was uncharacteristically quiet and the only sounds were that of the crickets chirping and the faint whoosh of cars passing by on Main Street. It was a perfect summer evening, the sort that you dream about in the middle of February. I asked my husband what he thought we might have been doing at that exact moment one year ago. Had we been sitting in the same place enjoying similarly beautiful weather? Had I made the same meal for dinner? What about five years ago? How about 10, 15, and 20 years ago? I know I've taken a ...

Public Service Announcement

I'm not quite ready to come back yet, but I wanted to take a few minutes to post my version of a Public Service Announcement.  As many of you already know, I've been away from blogging due to illness.  However, what you may not know is that the illness is H1N1.  Yep, the Swine Flu. I can honestly say that I've never felt so terrible in my life.  I had heard that for most people, H1N1 is no worse than the regular seasonal flu.  I guess I'm not most people.  After 15 days, I'm only now beginning to feel slightly human.  I was unable to get vaccinated because our area ran out of vaccine months ago.  I understand that it has recently become available again, but it's too late for me.  It's not too late for you, though.  If the vaccine is available in your area and you haven't gotten it yet, I beg you to drop what you're doing and take your family to get vaccinated. If you ignore my advice and decide to develop your immunity by gettin...
